Flooding in Yorkshire

With all the flooding around Yorkshire my family are are some of the lucky ones not to be devasted by all this, and after watching some of the scenes on tv and reading about it on the internet it seems strange that I'm sat writing this about 420 miles away in the Highlands of Scotland in Inverness on a warm, dry night after one of the sunniest days we've had in a while.

The picture shown is one my Dad took of Elsecar Park Bandstand surrounded by water and is just one of many on the BBC (South Yorkshire) webpage that people have sent in and this does beg the question of
"Where would we get this close up first hand footage and information from if it wasn't for mobile phones and digital cameras?"

After quite a while away form writing any sort of post (it seems to get pushed to the back of a very long queue of things that need to be done...)
either computer wise or just in general.

I'm now happily rolling along with another new Hardware Setup thanks in part to Paul again who just can't resist helping somebody from kicking the absolute ~~f@#k~~ out of a poor defenceless computer AGAIN and AGAIN!!! (that sometimes reminds me of HAL.... (~~B'Stards~~ that they are)... I wanted to just keep the basic sort of junk on the pc to try and see if any problems would arise and up to now I've only had a couple of shutdowns due to little niggles.

Is this the way forward?

I doubt it, I'm pretty sure that there's many a problem on the horizon!!!

God Bless You Internet, Software, Hardware Issues and all the Driver Errors all over the World.... Let all that sail in thy Blue Screens, Re-Format and work in Peace.

Not much of a post, I know...
but with my luck recently I'm happy to publish it without a complete shutdown and turning into my mate here on the right Andrew Martin and going round calling all the women in my life Little Miss & Old Miss, etc... boring everybody to tears and really wanting to own one of them big magnet crane things that they always seem to have in American junkyards full of old cars and scrap metal.

Anyway that's it for now.

With most of any spare time I'm actually getting to do any work on the computer, I'm trying to concentrate mainly on getting some considerable content (i.e. Live Band and gig photos etc...) on to www.reverberation.co.uk , my main website.
I am now considering what route to take with the reviews section. When it 1st came to my mind to start this, I had full intent on sectioning this off into a sort of "magazine style" thing with different pieces on live gig reviews, new, old and my classic album releases and generally personal views and feelings on anything musical.
I still want to approach something like this but for now I think this will drop into the background whilst I try to find some sort of new approach to this.
I just feel that I'm still trying to find that missing piece....

I've eventually got a bit of content up on the new look website and although the main aim now is to get back into the blogging and photography, I'm still being limitated by the computer problems I face.
In the past few weeks I spent a lot of time working on the gallery side of the website and with the computer sparodically shutting down a lot of work, time and effort was wasted.
So, I now face the task of scouring the internet for a good deal on a decent spec pc.

Sunday Morning...

Nothing much happening at the moment on the website front... I can't get a chance!!!

Just taken a weeks holiday to do some much needed decorating around the house...

What a difference a new look and a coat of paint can make to the whole outlook and ambience of a room!!!

( Shit... it's all going a bit Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen now )...

When I first took the week off I thought 3 days at the most would surely suffice to paint a large front room, two hallways and stairway and then have some time to kick back and get some serious relaxation in...

My Arse...

No chance of that...

It was like painting the Sistine Chapel or the Forth Road Bridge...

2 days just Glossing the architraves and skirtings... then 2 days painting the front room.... followed by (what I thought would be the hard bit)... a day and a half on the hallways and stair...

After I'd painted I then turned to furnishings (girly or what?)...

That's when the new desk was purchased...

Aah well, it's done now and just for the sake of it I'll mention that I did the painting with pads (for Paul's sake)...

I now need a holiday...

I've Got Computer Problems Again...(No Alarms and No Surprise Here)

A quick update on the old blogging and website front...

Having a lot of problems with my pc at the moment and it seems to be doing everything again that happened before. I had to replace the Motherboard and lost a stick of memory in the process due to a resistor? blowing on the motherboard and rather like a suicide bomber it decided to splatter it's innards all over the memory with probably the thought of Computer Jihad.

So not much happening on the website and blogging front due to the damn thing deciding to shut down and restart every 10 minutes or so. I decided to send error reports to see if the default answer really was (A problem as occured and it could...well it mightbe...well really we are not sure what's wrong, but we've decided now that it could well be a driver error)....

But the latest response was it could be a RAM error or try turning the hardware acceleration down to nothing on your GeForce 5200 gfx card, and this could fix the error....

The search has now begun for another pc or laptop priced reasonably!

Which then begs the question....Can I justify a Laptop?. Where am I going to use the computer?. Do I need a Laptop when a desktop spec hugely outweighs a Laptops for the same price....

Aaaarrrgggghhhh!!!!!.......

With the New Year now well and truly upon us I thought it was high time I got round to a bit of 'blogging' so, after a good Christmas and New Year holiday break, news reached me that the internets 'Poorman's Ant & Dec' James and Peter are now 'back in the blogging saddle' and riding their one trick ponies West toward the border of 'Olde Spam Town'.

Granted it's been a while since anything of interest has appeared here but I have only the mere excuse of a holiday, a new job and changing my isp and modem etc, etc...
and not the old "I'm not sure how to re-format my Windows ME" or "I'll do it after I've scratched my arse again" or "I'm waiting for the next Millenium Edition to upgrade" or "Dog Soldier's is on UK Gold 2 tonight" or "I was out all night howling at the moon". C'mon boy's the gauntlet has been thrown down, picked back up and slapped round your face like a mouldy old wet kipper from Skye!

I was speaking to Paul earlier about various things (internet, computers, death, alien invasion, mouse corruption, tea, socks, bleach, floorboards, and lists that you talk about turning into tags etc, etc) ...

(all-though he was busy under the floorboards again looking for an old sock that had a bit of room for improvement!!!..Or was he chasing a mouse? or was it re-wiring the Black Isle ready for broadbean a new faster internet connection)

.... a little faster than an asthmatic hamster keeping the bellows going for those big downloads!!!

Anyway by the by, I'm in the process of switching ISP's and we all know the shite! I'm going through at the moment... The connection is great...I've moved from 2.2mbs on virgin to a steady 7.6mbs with orange/freeserve/wanadoo or whatever they want to call themselves...
...this only came about when I switched my mobile phone contract from 3 (greatest reception in Inverness and outlying areas) to orange just to incorperate mobile phone and internet access into one bill...

Apart from saving money, the service from the english speaking company based in Rotherham, South Yorkshire has been excellent and highly recommendable (and not a call centre in India to be found!!!) so... without pissing on anybody's fire, the move has been a good one except I'm still waiting for my wireless broadband modem that they have named a Livebox, I'm starting to think that by the time I recieve mine it will be a Deadbox.

Feel My Pulse - New Review Site

I've got another blog site set up for anything music related like reviews etc, and after the usual 2 hourly stint of wracking my brain to try and get a decent name for it...I failed because every name you try on blogger seems to have been taken already, so I've ended up with Feel My Pulse. Hopefully this will keep a serious side to it and anything else will be kept here.

Well for the past 3 or 4 hours I've been messing around with photos from the last couple of gigs I've been to. After getting them all resized etc ready for the website I thought I would post a couple of reviews with a photo with each. Well think again...
A while ago I got the idea of having a couple of seperate blogs, one for general day to day stuff and nonsense and another for keeping all things music related on and try to keep the two seperate. So, I tried a wordpress blog for the music one just keeping it to myself for a bit until I decided if I liked it.
At first I was quite impressed with wordpress but now I'm not too sure if I'm going to use it, because everytime I try and do something there always seems to be a problem like the 2 hours I've just wasted writing the reviews on it and then losing them due to an error at wordpress' end.
Bah Humbug...

The last few weeks have been a bit hectic and I simply never got round to switching the computer on most nights let alone posting something. With starting a new job a few weeks ago everything has been a bit all go, so a quick few points of note from the last couple of weeks,

Started new job and enjoying it so far!, (Hurrah!)
Had to do a couple of induction and safety courses, (Boo!, yawn)
Heard that Peter had actually finished re-installing the universe!, (!!!)
Been to a couple of gigs over the last couple of weeks and been knackered at work,
Off to another gig tonight in about an hour, so hopefully will have some time over the weekend to get some photos and reviews done.

Hang Saddam? Let's Hang Dave Allen!

This was the first thought that came to my mind this morning when I saw the headlines on most of the daily papers.

Most people would associate the name Dave Allen with the late great comedian but unfortunately for all us Sheffield Wednesday supporters we are having to put up with our own comedian of a chairman and for the last few weeks he says he has been searching and interviewing various managers for the right man for the job of taking us back up the Championship and onto the Premiership.

After the sacking of fans favourite Paul Sturrock who was one of the best managers we've had in a long time, he has appointed in my view "a yes man" in Brian Laws. Wednesday are unbeaten in the last four games (3 wins and a draw) with a virtually fully fit squad for the first time since Paul Sturrock took over and for me it's still Paul Sturrock's team.

The chairman states that he was impressed by Brian Laws' views on football and how it should be played, he then goes on about him being from the Brian Clough school. He has never managed a club like ours and only been with smaller clubs like Grimsby Town and Scunthorpe United playing a lower level of football, very similar to Chris Turner.

He is not Brian Clough and never will be and is going to find it very hard to win over a lot of Wednesday fans (this one included)...

Being that it was the 1st time ever a gig from Inverness has been covered by the nme and I was there I thought I'd see what they said about it and the bonus in the whole thing is that I'm in the photo they have used from the gig!

Back Up & Re-Install Pete!

After having to spend the last few weeks archiving the amount of posts I've done over the past year on this blog and numerous commenting on other blogs which there are far too many to name, I decided that a bit of a tidy up was a necessity. So, with quick swill of Mother's Ruin...(Every computer buff's favourite tipple and the housewives choice) I managed to get the old Archive into shape...
(see photo) I gave everybody an e-mail to discuss how we could overcome this build up of posting, commenting and archiving etc in the future and was literally taken aback with the overwhelming response that I received. To be honest I found that many of us Normal Bogger's found that we tended to accumulate a fair few amount of posts, comments and links etc...

With Paul forging on ahead with his new look all singing and all dancing blog, I thought I'd better keep up with the pace. So with Peter's blog being taken over by Internet Pirates who are holding his blogger login password to ransom to the tune of an old bent rusty nail and the sole of a slipper that must be smooth and ready for writing on with a biro and all James seems to be interested in at the moment is adding to his collection of high cost dialers by accidentally stumbling unwittingly onto it , honestly!. With Simon I'm not sure if this lapse in blogging is due to constantly striving to be in two places at once without the use of a teleporter like the Time Machine that Paul built that now lines the loft floor.
Anyway I've filled this post now like everybody else does when they can't think of anymore words.

With my contract ready for renewal with 3, I decided to jump ship and become a dolphin with Orange. And after a bit of deliberation on which new handset to take, I've veered away from nokia for the 1st time in years.
For the last 18 months I have been using the nokia 6680 and it's a great phone but I thought it was time for a change and I opted for the LG KG800 also known as the LG Chocolate.

...Well the question is do I go and see Get Cape, Wear Cape, Fly at the Raigmore Motel, Inverness for a measly £6 or chuck £8 the way of The Ironworks who are hosting a couple of d.j sets from Tim Burgess of The Charlatans fame and Creation Records founder Alan McGee (the man who discovered Oasis, Primal Scream, The Jesus & Marychain and many more...) supported by local up and coming bands Call To Mind, Shutter and The Side...
I'm veering towards Get Beer, Get Pissed, Why?...
Could make myself into some sort of tribute/piss-take band!..
Maybe, maybe, maybe...

Tonight I've actually sat down and done a bit of work on the website front by resizing the photos I took at The View gig the other night and put them in the live photos section and I was quite surprised on the outcome of the photos because having taken numerous photos of live bands there over the past few years they now seem to have sorted out the lighting problems which makes it all the better for everyone.

The View, The View , The View Are On Fire!...

The chant from the crowd that must be ringing out in every town and city the length and breadth of Britain as Dundee's finest The View give another explosive set on a mammoth 49 date tour.
Tuesday 26th September the packed sell out Raigmore Motel, Inverness played host to 4 young lads who give their all in every energetic song they played from the likes of "Streetlights" with lyrics stating "There's a big crowd out tonight, look at the Streetlights", through "The Don", "Posh Boys" and "Skag Trendy" culminating with the singles "Wasted Little D.j's" and "Superstar Tradesman" (surely a dig at all those in every bar around the country telling you not to follow your dream but to "get a trade son and you will go far").
I think they have made the right choice in ditching their trade apprenticeships and going for it full on with an attitude of what's to lose? Your only young once! Because that's what the music business is all about.

Belladrum Festival - Part 2

Saturday 12th August

With Friday being a great 1st day of the festival looking at the Saturday line up I wasn't really sure about who to watch and decided to just wander about taking in as many different bands I could.

After hearing the buzz surrounding a new band from Dundee called The View they were top of the list. They had to move to a later slot after driving through the night from Liverpool due to the terrorism threats on the airlines. This didn't seem to faze them one little bit as they took the Hothouse Stage by storm and had the crowd bouncing along to great songs like 'Wasted Little D.J's' and 'Posh Boys', and the mellower 'Same jeans' had everyone realising they were witnessing the next big thing. With a 49 date countrywide tour now under way (I'll be at the Raigmore, Inverness 26th Sept & possibly Loopallu Festival, Ullapool 23rd Sept) they are a band that you should make sure you see at the smaller venues and after this blistering set I was looking down the rest of the line up to see which other band could deliver the goods.

Next up on the same stage were a Sheffield band called Tiny Dancers whom I had heard little about except they were a blues/folk/rock style band due to support Richard Ashcroft and Bob Dylan. I think this is another new band due for bigger things in the near future. A great set that had the crowd tapping along to every song and one band I will be keeping an eye open for.

The Automatic on the Garden Stage were always going to be a big crowd puller here because of the What's that coming over the hill? Is it a monster! factor and they had the biggest crowd barring the two headlining bands. They gave an energetic performence which included Kanye West cover version 'Golddigga', new single 'Recover', 'Raoul' and 'The Monster' which had the whole festival rocking.

A walk over to the Grassroots Stage was like walking back through time when I watched The Puppini Sisters. With their reworkings of classics like 'Wuthering Heights' - (Kate Bush), 'Panic' - (The Smiths), 'I Will Survive' - (Gloria Gaynor) and classics like 'Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy' it was a collision between the Andrews Sisters, The Smiths and Hollywood musicals of the 1940s. And it looks great, too!

After making my way back to the Hothouse Stage in my musical T.A.R.D.I.S I promptly returned to the 90's via The Wonderstuff who are in my view still one of the great live bands to see. With two of the original band members sadly no longer with us Miles Hunt and Malcom Treece have found a new 'Bass Thing' in Milo's step brother Mark McCarthy. For me they were a perfect band to be playing at that stage of the festival with all the classics getting an airing before they take them all on tour again. The early favourites like 'Wish Away', 'It's Yer money I'm After Baby' and 'Give Give Give Me More More More' led us through to the likes of 'Golden Green', 'CircleSquare' and 'Don't Let Me Down, Gently' finishing up with an encore of 'Poison'.

Last band up to close the festival is always supposed to be the best and the rest is purely a warm up to this great climax of a live show. So the question with me remains would Embrace have been this band if Echo & the Bunnymen hadn't been playing another festival this night in Ireland?.
Embrace to me are a dull and monotone sounding band live with a wobbly voiced singer who doesn't seem to be able to hold a note, yet they still seem to pull a big entusiastic crowd. Granted they did play some of their better known songs like 'Ashes', 'The Good Will Out', 'Nature's Law', and 'All You Good Good People', but this failed to lift me and left me slightly dissapointed with the ending to a great weekend.

No doubt on the whole the festival has started to build up and is attracting the bigger and better bands which is what we want, but let's try and keep this our festival, nice and easy going, friendly atmosphere and most of all not a ned's day out!

Belladrum Festival - Part 1

After a great weekend at the Belladrum Festival near Beauly, Inverness-shire I thought I'd give my opinion on some of the bands I saw and talk about my highlights. As always it's festivals like these where you go intent on seeing certain bands and stumble upon new favourite bands!

Friday 11th August 2006

Being a big fan of Echo and the Bunnymen to see them returning to Inverness after a long time this was always going to be the one band I would certainly be watching. Off hand I can't remember how many times I have seen them live in many guises over the years but it's well over double figures. As they coolly ambled late onto the main Garden Stage Friday night there was a feeling that this was to be a Bunnymen performance to remember. With lighting and sound problems for Mac the singer/rock god who had definitely had a few ale's he proceeded to berate his soundman throughout what was a run through the classics such as 'The Killing Moon','Bring On The Dancing Horses', 'Rescue','Lips Like Sugar' and 'The Cutter' to name a few with the odd obscure track for the die hard Bunnyman 'The Disease' from 1981 album 'Heaven Up here'.
Overall another Bunnymen classic to add to the memoirs from a band that has been on the scene for over 25 years!

The other main highlight of Friday was seeing The Mystery Jets who were a band I thought I had to see after buying their debut album 'Making Dens'. They were excellent on the Garden Stage on Friday evening and I can see them going on to make quite a big impact soon (and it's not that often a cool new band with the singers dad in it aswell comes along!).

Out of the other bands I saw on Friday the main ones to stand out were Forward Russia , from Leeds with a great live show that was loud and in your face and with the titles of their songs being numbers like 'Fourteen' and 'twelve' etc it was quite different, The Rumble Strips , from Devon a 4 piece band that uses a piano, drums, sax and a trumpet instead of the usual set up of guitars and drums were a sort of change to the norm, Culture Clash , the founding member of the Bhundhu Boys a band that was championed by John Peel and Andy Kershaw alike, I stumbled upon this Zimbabwean guitarist and his band on the Grassroots Stage and was taken aback with his 'World Crossover Music', Chris Difford former writing partner of Glen Tilbrook in Squeeze also played on the Grassroots Stage and the parts I heard from his set were very good, with The Young Knives disappointingly having to cancel due to the terrorism alerts at the airports I watched a band called Union Avenue who give you a variety of cover songs from across all genre's of music in the style of Johnny Cash which was a great opener to the festival for me.

Nothing much going on at the moment worth writing about except that most of time recently has been spent on the x-box playing "Black".I wasn't sure if I was going to take to this game after hearing conflicting reviews about it, but I have to say it's been keeping me entertained and I suppose thats what it's supposed to do. We can find fault with every game we play on every platform but not being one for this type of game usually I think on the whole it's in my Top Ten at the minute, but I do agree with Spoonbender that the only thing thats missing is the ability to jump.

If only this was my real life job!
Think of the fun I could have clearing the out buildings of hostilities!

Just listened to the debut album by Lily Allen, I think this is going to be absolutely massive, the daughter of the great comedian Keith Allen also known as Fat Les with Alex James from Blur and artist Damien Hirst released the song Vindaloo as a parody of football chanting, but this is no joke...
Lily Allen has got a great talent for singing and obviously a lot of her fathers musical influences have rubbed off on her over years and you can hear her own teenage girl band's like Bananarama etc mixed in with the day to day life of any girl...

Well, I've just sat and endured the 1st Semi-Final of the 2006 World Cup featuring Germany Vs Italy, the commentators kept describing this game as a classic! Were they watching the same game as us?
The Verdict, in my opinion?
Not very entertaining, dull for most parts...
The Germans throughout in my opinion have played in the style I expected England to play and the Italians have played the same way as England by stumbling and never convincing. I expect France to be joining Italy in the final by the end of tomorrow.
My Winners...Italy...
(Hopefully no other player now will have the ordacity to score more goals in the tournament than Germany striker Miroslav Klose, as my usual top scorer side bet at a great price of 20/1 looks to be ready to recoup other bets I've placed throughout the World Cup.)

With England stumbling their way through the World Cup a 1-0 win was nothing more than most of us expected against one of the weaker teams to qualify from the Group Stages.
At last David Beckham has scored from a free-kick again, since his big move to Real Madrid he must have thought Roberto Carlos' scoring from a free-kick hoodoo was beginning to rub off on him.
Nothing really to say about another boring get the job done result. Hopefully this will carry on, because to me I don't care how bad it looks if they can win the World Cup. For the past few years watching England has been bad enough for us to watch so now we want to share it with the rest of the world.

Rock Ness - Fat Boy Slim & Friends

The photo above was taken whilst the audio bullys were on stage at Dores, Inverness. I chose to put this one on for the view behind the stage and by the time Fat Boy Slim came on the batteries had gone and the pictures I did get at night look a bit too dark. Although there's one decent photo at night where you can see Fat Boy Slim dj-ing suspended in the air above the stage. I'll put the best few up onto the photo's section on the site as soon as I can.
The day started out with shambolic organisation for everyone travelling from Inverness Bus Station, with a line of people 4 or 5 wide from 1 side of the station to the other, when a bus did pull in it became a free for all surge to board it. With this mind everyone new what the score was going to be like leaving and we were not disappointed.
The event itself was ok for someone like me thats not a big dance music fan with a good friendly atmosphere all round. I would imagine that this will now become a yearly event with rumours abound that it will take place over two days with more acts.

With a draw enough to win the Group and face Ecuador rather than Germany in the Knockout Stages again England stumbled over the line.
Why does Owen Hargreaves play for England?
Decent 1st half performence marred by the injury picked by Michael Owen in the 3rd minute.
This brought about the usual bizarre substitution selections.

1.) Peter Crouch for Michael Owen, a striker for a striker.
But wait, this is a striker being rested for the next round and carrying a yellow card. With Theo Walcott having not yet played this would have been the ideal game to play him.

2.) Sol Campbell for Rio Ferdinand, a central defender for a central defender.
With 4 defensive players already on the pitch (Terry, Cole.A, Carragher and Hargreaves) why not bring on a more creative or more attack minded player.

3.) Steve Gerrard for Wayne Rooney, a midfielder for a striker.
Another player being rested and in danger of missing the next round game because he's carrying a yellow card.

Why does Owen Hargreaves play for England?
If England were to win the World Cup would Sven Goran-Eriksson's eccentric management decisions be hailed as genius masterstrokes?
I doubt it...
In 1 way the end of the World Cup cannot come too soon to see the end of the highly paid piss artist of a manager Sven Goran-Eriksson.

Another lacklustre display from England.
No excuses can be made about the heat.
Although hardly troubled, 2 warnings.
At times now the style we play is starting to resemble the German's.
Yawn.
This might not be a bad thing in a tournament like this as on many occassions it's not the team with the most flair and highest goals scored or even the most entertaining that go on to the latter stages.
When Sven Goran- Eriksson actually changed the system for once to an attacking 3-5-2 style set up, we started to look a bit dangerous with pace on the wings.
Verdict:-
Although the result gave us qualification the message is still Must Try Harder.

Sleepless Fearing Cattle

After formatting the new bigger memory card for my digital camera, I thought I'd better test the thing before a few up and coming music events I will be frequenting under the influence of alcohol.

Last summer I decided to dig up a stretch of the garden that was always the main meeting point in the North of Scotland for the annual weeds and dandelion convention and put down some liner and woodland bark. This has saved me hours of endless back pain by eliminating weed growth but yet forming a gathering place for the noisiest shite of bird the starling who for some strange reason has to inform all and sundrie of every movement it makes with the loudest and shittest whistle ever, whilst it goes about rooting through the bark for the constant supply of bugs, which leads me to the photo of the mushroom? or toadstool?. I noticed a few little clumps of them growing but could'nt see why they had sort of gouges in them?
Don't know what they are but I hope they plan to take over the world...

I've got a Golden Ticket!

With Paul having a rare day off work today due to his un-dying love for all things equine, I was left with no quote of the day until I watched Big Brother tonight when the new contestant was "entered" into the house.
As they had found a Golden Ticket in a Kit Kat bar in the style of Willy Wonka vibe or even (as the winner did spend £4000 on buying their way in) she was given a set of Golden clothes to wear as she was the Golden Housemate.
O.K. So fary so goody...
Then she was called into the diary room and told she would sleep in a seperate Golden Bedroom and sit on a seperate Golden Toilet,(to this she gasped?) and best of all she would get her own seperate Golden Shower!
I don't know wether this could cause a bit of friction with the other asylum inmates as they are all fluent in talking Pish and the Gay Cowboy is longing for some hot summer rain!

Another couple of days of my life wasted due to interweb activity

After countless hours of messing about with every ftp client known to man tonight just trying to upload more photos and pages etc to The MAIN SITE (New Look) and waiting for this BAG OF SHITE Blogger thing to come back from it's hourly maintenance thing I've decided that websites are Gay.
They can't decide which team they are batting for and therefore don't know which side their bread is buttered. I am half expecting some sort of march to pass by me tomorrow declaring that Blogger and all things that blog and ftp programs are in fact gay and were invented by gay people for gay people somewhere in Wales.
Anyway enuff said... The site is a bit behind (Pardon the pun!) because as you can guess every time I try to upload 1kb of information the dummy is spat.
mmmm... Think I'll have to leave the computer alone for a while as I might break a Metatarsal before the World Cup starts and the Scottish Press would love a story like that to write about as they have no significance whatsover to do with the forthcoming football action involving 32 of the best footballing countries in the world.

Update on the New Look website

Over the weekend I've been spending some time on creating a whole new look, style and design to my main website reverberation, (still running the old theme.)
At the moment I'm running with a "live band and audience type theme" but as usual after a while like most things in life things start to become old? in need of refreshment? are these the right words to describe a full over-haul of the whole website?. Anyway as the more and more I start tinkering with every little detail there always seems to be something else to be added somewhere along the way.
Most of the basic stuff behind the "New Look" is done and now it's all the time sapping stuff that I'm working with e.g photos all need to be resized for better viewing etc, and I've dug out a lot of old photos (from some of the first gigs I went to after leaving school in the late 1980's) and scanned them. In my own view I think it's probably basic but effective and personally for me thats what i'm aiming for so, hopefully but that's aswell as maybe the New Look will tie in with the colour scheme I've changed to here.

With my posts running on low to empty due to pure lack of interest in anything to do with computers, internet, websites etc, it doesn't take a genius to work out Im still messing about with a new template for My Website.
With help from Bob Feltcher it's starting to take shape little by little. The main problem seems to be fixed now, leaving me with a lot of photos to resize and sort out. At times I feel like my head is swelling so much I think I am a student taking part in a drug test for extra cash!.

BIg Brother = Freakshow = ?

It's that time of the year again when the doors are opened to the biggest freakshow ever, the start of Big Brother.
As I am typing this I know that Pete will be sat eagrly awaiting the start of his favourite programme ever in the whole wide world. As soon as Davina utters her catchphrase "You're live on Channel 4, don't say F**k or Bugger" he will be laid on the floor in a w**kfest stupor with his trolly's round his ankles.
Even though Paul try's to deny this is utter sh*te of a tv show is his 2nd favourite after the bile that is known as Lost or is it Frost? (can't remember) he too will be glued to his tv with a pair of socks at the ready for that climatic moment when the geordie narrator says the words "Day 1 in the Big Brother house and freak 1 is stating how much they can't believe they are in there to freak 2 who is giggling stupidly whilst remarking on how 'weird is this'".

Whilst Paul was away from work today (due to him Riding the manager's Cock Horse to Perth) he missed out on the highlight of another dull and mind numbingly boring week so far.
As I was stood outside this morning avoiding any contact with work or people there I saw a lorry turning into Morrison's supermarket lay an egg so to speak...well more like a tin of white paint fell off the back into the middle of the junction. I just knew what was coming next, as the car waiting at the traffic lights swerved to avoid it the big wagon behind him didn't see it (or pretended not to) and splattered it all over the road. Great Fun watching cars trying to avoid it!!!

Sidebottom Family Crest

As anybody 'normal' does on a Friday night near to midnight when the mind starts to churn out random phrases etc to type into various search engines blah blah blah, I happened to stumble across this page by accident of course, Sidebottom Family Crest (not that anybody searches their own Surname for beneficial bragging rights etc).
I wonder if anybody has walked into a tattoo artist's shop and asked for their 'so-called family crest' as a tattoo and had random military regalia, parts of suits of armour, crests and the odd animals head(sometimes with an implement skewered thru it, like a shovel or a brush,) chucked in for good measure scrawled across their body and then proceeded to present the said doodle at the peak of an arguement when their surname has been brought into question to prove their loyalty to the family name and honour?... Well they have, ..... to discover the lost world and it's inhabitants click on the link in the tags that says tattoo...
Piss taking apart it does state that the family name derives from Lancashire like my dad's family, so maybe the people at house of names aren't just there for the nasty things in life like a blocked drain or a leaking gutter.....

Have any other readers ever pondered this sort of thing before, and if not why?

This Rat's Race is Run

After a couple of weeks of 'Non-Blogging' I had started to think that living here in the upper-outer nether regions of Inverness was starting to become a bit of a bore. After having a week or so holiday from the usual wake up - get up - go to work - switch off brain - don't look at clock - finish work - go home - start to have life again (all this excitement everyday... and still remembering to breathe!!!), tonight I was given a sign from the GOD OF BLOG himself.
Whilst walking to the shop at the top of my estate I followed my usual quick route of cutting through the houses to the main road and on as quickly as possible. Anyhow as I get into the cul-de-sac before the main road I crossed the grass to the pavement and did a double take to see if I had really seen the now flattened body of a rat on the road. So as not to draw attention to myself taking a photo with my phone camera I took the picture whilst walking and oddly enough caught my left foot in the side of the photo (which now gives the size ratio etc of the recent vermin roadkill).
I'm glad it got wasted 'cos Roland Rat was a bastard aswell.

Holidays In The Sun

Here's a quick note to keep upto date whilst I'm on holiday.
After leaving Inverness early Saturday morning leaving behind the usual blizzard conditions of spring, the weather on arriving at Sheffield in the afternoon was a decent warm sun. As the day went on the weather changed to rain but didn't really dampen the spirits. Sunday lunchtime the rain had turned to sleet and by the mid afternoon it was snowing and the scenes outside were of christmas card fame.

The evening was spent frequenting the Ale Houses of my old stomping ground of Hoyland where I was greeted with many comments of the like..."I'll bet it's just like being at home up there with all this snow" and "Tha can 'tek this f**kin shitey weather back wi thi' anole!" etc, etc.
I took the photo on Monday from my parents front garden looking over towards Wentworth (with Rotherham and Sheffield on the horizon) after another inclement day of weather, unfortunately the crock of gold had already been taken and I suspect that it is on it's way as I type to Cromarty to be buried in a Pirates Graveyard (next to the Elephants Graveyard!!!). nb. see Old Shredded Wheat head for map etc...

I see that the excavation and uber donkey work is still carrying on over the water at Paul's settlement (somewhere up the A9 near Tore).
One of reverberation's intrepid photographer's managed to get a picture of the somewhat devastion being caused by this "Amateur Monty Don" in his efforts to retrieve a penny he dropped sometime last month, whilst in the throws of the ancient Highland Ritual of "Tree Worship". Which according to our sources requires the 'Elder' of the 'Flaming Church of Tree Worship and All Entism' to cavort naked but for a pair of Farm & Domestos Storer's Green Wellies, wielding a Skye Nipper Valve in one hand and a Shredded Wheat biscuit (fashioned into a fairly passable wig) in the other chanting "MINCE, MINCE, MINCE...".

I've given in eventually and forked out for Windows XP. After fighting Gareth Gates (or whatever is name is)across this Super Highway for what seems like Eons, Ive decided to try a new tactic with what is supposed to be cutting edge technology? and fight him on the beaches of XP.

I set off into town on my dinner hour (precious that it is) to place a bet on a horse in the Cheltenham Gold Cup, Knowing fine well that it is St.Patrick's day by passing numerous 'tatty munchin' drunken Irish concrete layers languishing outside every Inn and Tavern the length and breadth of old Inverness town. (Although I was safe in the knowledge that Fiona (Queen of the Stands & Conqueror of all Gypsy's) had cleared me a safe path to bequeath my hard earned soverign's to the kind hearted and hand rubbing lady behind Ladbrokes counter.

After winning a berry picking short break staying in a cave near Tore (next door to some bloke in a turban called Austin Bin Ladle), upon my return I was astounded to find 'the return of the Mac'(Kenzie) on the so called Internet Highway. Good old Captain Blogwash himself Peter and his trusty sidekick Crotch Pheasant have gone and started one of those Blogging site things where as far as I can understand, it involves hanging around deserted car parks or down the woods waiting to watch other 'Bloggers' indulging in 'Blogging' and sometimes if your lucky you get to add your own two penneths worth aswell!.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy your 'Blogging' but remember those who suffered and those that still are from the long gone days of yore when all you knew was that one day 'The Great Prawn Wars of 2002' would surely end and that Man cannot live with Fish Alone!

I set off tonight to watch the boxing on ITV featuring Joe Calzaghe and some American guy called Jeff Lacy disputing the Super Middle-Weight Belt. They are both entertaining and explosive boxers but after the first 2 mins of the programme starting, we are all informed that due to this fight being screened in America the main bout is scheduled to start at approximately 2.00 a.m GMT...WHY?...Because it seems that everytime anybody fights against the Americans , be it a legal fight or an illegal war, it all has to be done to suit the American Television Viewing Public!!!
Come on the BBC!!! The License fee is due to go up again in April isn't it?
You could have bought the fight and not let ITV.
You Can Do It!!! So do us all a favour and show the fight at a reasonable time seeing as it is in Manchester!
As an after thought, I was a bit pissed off not to see Johnny Nelson fight on the undercard tonight [NB](Johnny Nelson had to pull out of the fight 3 weeks ago due to an achilles injury and was replaced by Huddersfield fighter Mark Hobson), being originally from Sheffield myself this was to me the Main Event...
So, there's no way I'm going to stay up to watch the fight 'Live' because it is fully Re-Screened at about 11.30 a.m. on Sunday Morning and there's not much more to choose from to watch except for Landward on one channel and John Noakes Does Sheep on the other...
Thank God for Sunday.... No wonder even the Almighty rested and stayed in bed on the Seventh Day...( The Sabbath)...

An Uber Late One

Whilst having a bit of a late night, I stumbled aimlessly across this little gem!
A childhood Classic!. I can remember getting one of these for christmas one year and attempting to draw a picture on it!, still it is an addictive thing trying to get anything to actually resemble something without having to resort to just scribbling randomly because the stick man that you have drawn has got one foot bigger than the other, one arm thinner and a face you would normally see on Crimewatch UK as a Photo Fit. So after about 10 mins of doodling I knocked up this little number of Michael Jordan basketball icon of the Chicago Bulls...

This is Not the Uber Post your looking for...

Not having had much interesting to post about recently I was hoping for some sort of über Durchschnitt post, but I think this ones leading nowhere. Most of the last week I've been playing the old xbox and was hoping for a few hours on it today due to the six or so inches of snow falling overnight. After about 3/4's of an hour waiting for a bus I decide to give it up and go back home. I phoned into work, got a cup of tea, went back to bed and started up the xbox. An hour or so later the work rings me to tell me that a lift will be there in about 15 mins..Day Ruined.., although I must mention I'm off Monday so I am now not hoping for uber amounts of snowfall over the weekend.

Google Adsense or Load of Nonsense?

After doing a bit of cleaning up on the 'button link' section (down the (right hand side of the main site) & (left hand side of the blog section), I set off tonight with great expectations of myself to get a lot of work done tidying up all aspects of the site www.revereberation.co.uk by getting rid of the Google adsense links on the Live Photos I've taken , 'cos as usual something that looked a good idea in the first place became the proverbial 'Albatross' around the neck of the site...
I don't think anybody running a personal website could generate anything near the amount of traffic via a Google adsense link to even buy a cup of tea from their earnings, so it's been replaced...
I would love to know what sense they used to design the program to pick out random keywords from your html that will associate back to something to do with anything Microsoft related or ebay related ... I'm sure that they use Ask Jeeves as a search engine...
Anyway, I think the new ads I've put on are more relevant than anything that google tried to pick up on as a keyword so, as the saying goes "F**k Them Feed Them Rice",so hopefully these might be of use to somebody so, as I said earlier ther's nowt much happnin to write home about at minute so I took a photo of what I made for my dinner tonight...

Alas, Steve had no rice to F**k them with or Feed them with..., So he had to make do with Spaghetti....(It could be used for makeshift rope?)

Pills, Thrills and Toothache....

Nothing much exciting to write home about this week I thought... but, as the work seemed to drag on & on due to more shite yer could swing a stick at arriving due to everyone there ordering stock like F**ckin' Noah on speed stating ("I think we'd better have at least two boxes of everything Mrs.Noah, yer never know when the next showers coming"). The old adage of 'square peg and round hole' springs to mind constantly at work these days and so does 'F**k this for a game of soldiers'.
Anyway there was light at the end of what seemed like a never ending black, black, blacker than midnight working weekly tunnel with Paul emptying his pockets on my workbench to show me his daily diet...At first glance I know what your thinking...

It does look like he's the dealer on his way to a homecoming pool party for Michael Barrymore, but he assures me that the 'Promise' is not On a Promise Cream and only toothpaste, the blue tube of lubricant is simply 'Bonjela' for rubbing on his Gums and not the word I misinterpretated beginning with 'B' and lastly all the pain relieving drugs (enough to get a Battalion High in Fort George) are innocently enough for his constant battle with his teeth.

Nice to see one of the old school back from the old Cock and Beaver !!!. When Paul mentioned to me at work that Simon was back, I knew that summat were going to kick off,. All we need now is Peter to actually stop being Captain Technophobe and realise that there is a world without seaman!!!
Hopefully we can all keep up what we've started again, but remember that the tear your eye when reading a post will only lead to a Blue Screen in the end, due to our ongoing fight for justice against the Religeous computer system that is known as Bill Gatesism.

Ian Brown - Aberdeen. "The Return of King Monkey"

Last Saturday night was spent at Aberdeen Exhibition Centre watching King Monkey himself, ex-Stone Roses singer and frontman Ian Brown belt out a storming set of old Stone Roses classics and an excellent selection of his own singles back catalogue, to a packed Press & Journal Centre. At the moment I'm in the process of getting the photos I took and maybe some sort of review onto the main website www.reverberation.co.uk and hopefully this will be in the next couple of days barring anymore computer crash calamaties in my ongoing intergalactical internet war with Emperor Gates and his Fatal Error Occurences.

Don't Fear The Reaper

As Monday's go, today didn't go too bad at all. After a slowish sort of start it soon got into a good day with the 'banter' flowing fast and thick and with the boss being away it was even better.
After viewing some quality video footage on Paul's phone the "in thing to say" for today soon became "Whoar Yeah, Whoar Yeah..."
At lunchtime, listening to Radio 2 it got mentioned that today being the 1st Monday of February, it was the day most likely for people 'to throw a sickie'. I would like to know why I wasn't informed of this earlier so as not to be left out on this momentous day, as it is not like me to be off work on a Monday.
As the afternoon went on it was good to hear the guy (Nick Flynn) who famously fell down a flight of stairs at a Cambridge Museum smashing into some priceless vases speak up for himself. Here are a couple of quote's he gave to the press
"I have a few household accidents, maybe drop a cup or two, smash a plate - but nothing like this has ever happened to me before"
and
"Well, I've been driving for a considerable amount of time and not had any serious accidents, and I seem to have most of my faculties"
He has surprisingly enough been told by the museum's director that he is not welcome there for the near future... mmm...I wonder why?...
After this I thought it was going to be hard to top this for making my day but wait,...As I was skimming through 'The Sun' I stumbled accross this little gem and proceeded in taking the test with my reluctant workmate Paul who was by now beginning to resemble a cross between an old style Action Man and Rocky due to opening a door into his own face,

Mad Dog's & Inverness Men Work In The Midday Sun...

As today goes I've not really done that much, exertions were kept to a minimum due to it being the weekend and only Mad Dogs & Invernesian's go out to work on a weekend. I don't know if the latter term I used (Invernesian's) is grammatically correct for a person born in Inverness or someone who dwells in Inverness but, nevertheless, I don't work weekends here Farm & Hardware Stores , but apparently there's "Good Times Ahead" ........ according to a Flyer.
My time today has been mainly spent on the PC doing various tweaks to everything you seem to accumulate on the Internet and I've tried to give the blog a bit of a spruce up by adding a few buttons in the sidebar linking to some affiliates etc.
I was also happy to see a couple of comments on a recent post from someone I don't know personally... , this has come down to me having a nose around other fellow britblog members sites in and around Inverness and leaving a comment on an interesting post Life In The Slow Lane (regards kat's from Culloden) about how our language is soon to become German based.
The only answer to this is BACK OFF BRUSSELS!!!

....and on the Third day of the Second Month in the year of Oure Lorde Two Thousend and Six he said "Let Steve have SOUND!!!". And the Nurse at the clinic did so give me audible sound again by using what could be described as a small clear plastic box type thing full of hot tap water attached to a squirty type thing which is then inserted into the ear to flush the hot water around the ear canal to clean out any small Roman Forts, other obstructions, loose masonary, debris or small animals sheltering from a harsh winter.
To try and put into perspective what it feels like I have done a before and after scenario with the use an imformative and complex diagram below...

After what took approximately 10 minutes it was over and done and the Nurse showed me what was causing the temporary Bungage. So as quick as a Jamaican Toboggonist I grabbed my Nokia 6680 portable communication device with built in image capturer and hurriedly sketched this somewhat alarming sight before my eyes,

If this is the shape of things to come in later life my ear blockages could well be harbouring a castle near you sometime...So watch out for the tokens you'll need to collect for the fantastic I Want To Pay 4 All and Smile! deal or I Love Not Getting In Here For Nowt! deal...

Deaf Valley and the Time Team Formula

For the last week or so i've been in a great amount of discomfort in my left ear due to a build up of wax, making me almost totally deaf. ( I cannot for the life of me work out why the word Great is used when you are in a deal of pain! ). Anyway, this has been the reason why I've not been keeping up with posting and hopefully when I'm back in the Land of the Hearing on Friday when I'm booked in at the local surgery for the Nurse to syringe the offending ear I will be able to keep up a little more.
As for some reports that I have read on other blog sites e.g homicidal my ear was to be excavated by Tony Robinson and The Time Team in search of the remains of a small Roman Fort, but due to other commitments I am now allowed contractually to talk about, therefore, hearsay, and other crap bands, I say Ashley, Ashley I say, I sadly had to pull the said ear out of the filming due to numerous complaints from Friends, Romans and Countrymen who wouldn't lend me their ears . The only part of any of the project allowed to be shown is the formula we agreed on...

Translated means :- Toothache divided by Tony Robinson equals Happy Day's........

Bluejacking, Craze or Devience of the passenger?

I read a great story in The Sun today about someone recieving a video via Bluetooth on their mobile phone. The 21 year old man from Lanarkshire, Scotland was travelling on a busy train when he got a home made Porn movie sent to him. The 'movie' is thought to have been made in the Drumchapel area of Glasgow, Why?... Because it was filmed on a single divan in a bedroom!!! and the woman and the 2 men (1 filming) spoke in broad Glasgow accents. I must applaud the 'Poiret/Morse/FatherDowling/Taggart' style investigating that The Sun undertook on this so called new craze 'bluejacking', but in my own 'Columbo' style "Can I ask a few more questions before you go?"He states he only accepted the bluetooth message because the name "John" was sending it and he thought it was from a friend, so was his friend "John" on the train within the bluetooth range of his 'friends' mobile? and also why in the second paragraph of the story in the newspaper does it state that the message was anonymous?
This story has more holes in it than a packet of polo's.

My Son's Dodgy Playstation 2

My son's had a Playstation 2 console for approximately 3 years and to be honest he's had his moneys worth out of it, but over the last couple of months it's started to be a bit hit and miss on the disc's it will play.
It started off by just sticking on a few games but has now moved onto not even loading most of the games, yet it will play DVD movies ok. On loading up a game everything seems to be running fine then it just sticks and will go no further.
On the games that it's decided it's not going to entertain, it has left it's mark by leaving scuff marks as though the cd might be catching on something?.
With the console being well past the Guarentee expiry, I decided enough was enough and opened it up to give it a good cleansing! as I did this I had a good look around the innards of the beast and had a good poke around trying to find anything that might leave the scuff marks.
Alas, I couldn't find anything and the tempermental bitch continues to ruin my son's enjoyment. If anybody has any suggestions on how to fix these problems please contact me.

Once again the DICK JOCKEY'S at Radio 1 have now found themselves a new up and coming band to totally ruin for the rest of us, arctic monkeys.
Time and Time again the so called dj's that used to work on Hospital Radio and couldn't get a job compering at Pontins or Butlins or even dj-ing at a smacked up shit clowns wedding have not failed us by Jumping On The Band Wagon.
All I can say to you is, "Get your HEAD'S OUT OF YOUR ARSES AND REALISE THAT THE WORLD DOES NOT REVOLVE AROUND WHAT YOU AND THE BBC DECIDE TO TELL US WHAT WE SHOULD AND SHOULD NOT DO....IS IT NOT ENOUGH THAT WE PAY YOU EVERY YEAR TO DECIDE WHICH MUSIC WE WILL AND WON'T LISTEN TO???

After the success of the 4 lads from Sheffield, that just want to tell life as it is and put it to music and enjoy anything that goes with it, have been put in the uncomfortable position of deciding on wether to keep the "street cred" up and stay "aloof and in control" or believing what the so called "music press"(Gutter & Scum)latch on to and all want to claim to be the first reporter or first music paper to feature and praise the new darlings of "pop stroke Indie", and I was the man who found them...Please,give us all a break , we're not that gullable...Were You At BIRDWELL CLUB??????"

Build It and They Will Come...

At last it's here, the long awaited blog for reverberation
After months of hardware problems and software errors, (for once non of my own doing) Old Prissy is running like an old battered Cortina once again. The main website has got the basics laid down and all it needs now is some time, effortand most importantly content putting on. So after least 2 hours trying to get some sort of blog up and running, encountering 1 knock back after another with countless names being kicked into touch it looks like this is it.
The whole general idea of my website is musically based, with my own reviews and photos of the gigs I have been to and when I actually get my head into gear again I will also be attempting to give my own views on music in general.
Hopefully I can try and get something on quite regularly as I feel it's something like this that the site has been sorely missing.
